Lugar Unopposed

In 2006, Indiana Senator Richard Lugar faced no challenger from the Democratic Party, making the Republican statesman the only U.S. Senator nationwide, and the first in Indiana history, to face no major party opposition. Lugar would go on to win with 87 percent of the vote, a far cry from his next contest, in 2012, in which he would lose his own primary to a Tea Party challenger. This piece, which originally aired on Indiana Public Radio in the fall of 2006, features clips of an interview with the veteran Senator.
